Fresh and fragrant Thai food, made from scratch, is what you’ll get at this recently refurbished Legian restaurant. It’s owned and operated by Balinese native Wayan Sadi, and has been going strong for 22 years.

The new-look restaurant has a pretty air-conditioned dining room plus a bar lounge and terrace for al fresco dining. And the food is just delicious. From prawn Pad Thai to yellow and green curries and mango sticky rice, the menu showcases classics done well.

Spice Mantraa

📍Jl. Kartika Plaza No.20, Kuta, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

Innovative Indian cuisine is the order of the day at Spice Mantraa Kuta. More casual than its Seminyak sister outlet, the eclectic menu sees traditional specialties — like clay-oven cooked Chicken Tikka — alongside fusion dishes, like the curried cauliflower arancini.

The 190-seater restaurant also features an exotic bar menu of cocktails designed to get you in the holiday mood. Mango Mania, anyone? And thanks to its handy location (opposite Discovery Mall) and lunch and beer specials, it’s a favourite with tourists.

The Coffee Club

📍Jalan Pantai Arjuna No.18, Legian

Slap bang in the middle of Legian beach road, The Coffee Club serves up brunch classics in a peaceful, plant-filled dining space. Experience the inviting ambiance and exceptional coffee blends at The Coffee Club, a renowned Legian restaurant that has become a local favorite for its cozy atmosphere and delightful menu offerings.

From all-day breakfasts to pasta galore and healthy grilled salmon, the kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Signatures include the ‘Fat Boy,’ a juicy beef and bacon burger, the river prawn Pad Thai, and the Aussie-style chicken parmigiana. If you’re watching your carbs, there’s a range of hearty salads to choose from, too.

Facing out over palms and beach, this boho-feel beach club is a go-to sundowner spot. The sandy lower deck is perfect for strolling in straight from the ocean, and the Tiki-inspired cocktails are as exotic as the setting.

Climb the bamboo stairs, and you’ll find an infinity pool, pod-like seating overlooking the sea, and an al fresco dining area. The extensive dinner menu includes fresh seafood, prime meat cuts, handmade pasta, and risotto. If you’re after a show-stopping dish, try the pan-seared Tasmanian salmon, or opt for the crispy Balinese pork belly, cooked low and slow for 12 hours.

Kuta Social Club

📍Rooftop, Mamaka by Ovolo, Jl. Pantai Kuta No.32, Legian, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361  Jl Arjuna No. 17 Legian, Bali 80351

Occupying the rooftop at Mamaka by Ovolo, this relatively new venue is a go-to for sundowners, seafood, and live DJs. Chef Ben Harrington, previously from Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants, is the man behind the menu, which focuses on fresh, local fish and charcoal grilled dishes.

We love the char grilled king prawns with chilli and garlic. And the charred aubergine with  lemon and mint yoghurt is a great example of how veg dishes don’t have to be boring!  Balinese fruits add zing to the cocktails, which take inspiration from the classics. There’s also an infinity-edged pool with day beds, resident DJs spinning island-inspired sounds, and one seriously dreamy view of Kuta’s sunset. A must visit Kuta restaurant.

With its soft lighting, dark wooden latticework, and theatrical teppanyaki grills, eating here is a true sensory experience. And with options to suit vegetarians, coeliacs, and kids, the whole family will be happy here.

Specialities include an array of ceviches, robata anticuchos (Peruvian skewers), and beautifully put together sushi rolls at this Kuta restaurant. Or, opt to have prime cuts of beef or seafood flame-grilled in front of you on the sizzling teppanyaki grill. The drinks menu stays on theme with a great selection of sake.

And if you’re a wine lover, you’ll be delighted with the number of premium wines available by the glass.

Makan Place

📸 makanplace.bali

“Makan dulu!” — literally “let’s eat first!” is a phrase you’ll often hear in Indonesia. And it’s this love of sharing food that underpins the concept at Makan Place, a popular Kuta restaurant. Semi al fresco with a bamboo roof, this eatery specializes in family-style Balinese fare, but it also does great Asian and Western dishes.

Meat lovers will adore the 800-gram Balinese crackling pork knuckle, while there are plenty of vegetarian-friendly salad bowls. While we always order local, there are plenty of Western dishes too. Juicy burgers, pizzas, and pasta dishes are a few of the options.

% Arabica

📍Jl. Beachwalk Mall, Kuta, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

📸 arabica.indonesia

% Arabica, the design-led coffee emporium from Japan, has recently opened its doors in Bali, including a captivating branch in Kuta. One of four stores in Indonesia, the clean, crisp-white interiors are a reflection of the modern Japanese aesthetic — with a few Bali touches.

Outside, custom-made daybeds at this Kuta restaurant are the perfect place to relax with a coffee and Kyoto-inspired bites overlooking the ocean. But none of this detracts from the coffee. The store has a world-leading espresso machine and its own Tornado King small-batch roasting machine. That means you can pick your preferred beans and have them tailor-roasted for you on the spot. Now that’s unique!
