So if you are a wine lover, keep reading!

We’ll introduce you to the art of Bali winemaking and give you tips for a fun new experience to spice up your Bali getaway.

Vineyards and Varieties

In the north of Bali, the locals have been growing grapes for centuries. The abundance of sunshine, clear mountain water and the area’s rich volcanic soil make for perfect grape growing conditions. Winemaking in Bali is relatively new, having started in 1994. Extra methods and techniques have advanced, and today there are several renowned wineries, giving you the opportunity to taste the wines of this beautiful tropical island.

Wineries in Bali have seen opportunities in this agriculture and have applied superior production technologies to produce beautiful wines that combine the best of international and local grapes and techniques. Winemaking in Bali is unique due to the tropical climate and it is very interesting to learn about it. Farmers harvest grapes 2-3 times a year, significantly increasing their production!

The grapes grown in Bali are both local and international grape varieties, giving the wines a familiar yet unique palette of flavors. Indonesians generally prefer to drink sweeter wine, so if you love sweet wine, there are some great wines for you to try! But fear not if you prefer dry wine: there is something for every taste.

Wineries to visit:

Hatten Winery

Hatten Wines is Bali’s original winery, owned by Balinese people, their wine is made from locally grown grapes. The company was founded in 1994 and first became famous for its rosé wine, the perfect wine for warm weather! They now produce a wide range of wines including sparkling, white, red and their iconic Pino de Bali fortified wine. Hatten harvests its grapes 3 times a year and processes over 1,000 tons of grapes a year. They produce dry and sweet wines, so there is something for all tastes.

In addition to their local wines, they also produce the popular “Two Island” wines, made from Australian grapes but produced in Bali. This is truly combining the best of the Two Islands. In the Two Islands range you will find sparkling wines, reds, whites and rosés. There’s even a Black Label Reserve range to try for true wine connoisseurs.

If you’d like to sample their different wine varieties from the Hatten and Two Island ranges, you can choose from three different tastings at your Cellardoor: Balinese, Comparison or Sweet Lover.
