How to get to Campuhan Ridge Walk Ubud and what to expect | almost landing
Do the Campuhan Ridge Hike
When in Ubud there are many great things to do. There are some really nice walks, whether through the village, through rice fields, or just a beautiful nature walk. The Campuhan Ridge hike is definitely on the top of your must hike list when in Ubud. It is a beautiful walk that is full of greenery and hills. It’s more of a jungle or forest trek, so if you just want to see rice fields and terraces, there are other treks you can do. We’ve been doing this hike every year since 2015, and even though it gets busier every year, it’s still such a beautiful experience.

what to expect
This is a beautiful paved walk along the Campuhan Ridge. This walk definitely shows the natural side of Ubud. Lots of trees and hills, Campuhan Ridge Walk has the scenery of a jungle or forest instead of rice terraces and fields.
There are rice fields further along the hike near Karsa Kafe, but there are other terraces and rice fields that require less walking to reach and are closer to central Ubud, such as the Kajeng Rice Fields hike. . There are also more impressive and popular rice terraces such as Tegalalang or Jatiluwih Rice Terraces (although Tegalalang has changed a lot and become much more touristy, it is no longer the experience it once was).

When to go: What is the best time to visit Campuhan Ridge Walk?
We always try to start the walk as early as possible around sunrise. The hike is quite exposed to the elements and heats up quickly. Start between 6 and 7:30 so you don’t melt too much. At this time you may also meet some locals on your morning walk before the sun rises. Unfortunately the walk has become very popular so it is now much more crowded than when we first did it in 2015. So if you prefer to have a quieter walk the sooner the better.
We recently did the hike just before sunset, and while it was pretty hot when we started, it was actually a beautiful temperature at the end, which is nice. Again, it was quite busy but still enjoyable.
We probably wouldn’t recommend doing the Campuhan Ridge Walk in the late either at night. During the day it will most likely be quite hot and less pleasant as there is not much protection from the sun. And at night there is no lighting so you would miss out on all the beauty and it would be much more difficult to do so.
So when is the best time to do the Campuhan Ridge Walk? Any early morning or late afternoon, sunrise or sunset is when to do the Campuhan Ridge Walk.

How long does it take to do the Campuhan Ridge Walk?
Campuhan Ridge Walk Times and Distance
From Warwick Ibah to the end of the Ridge it comes to 20 – 25 minutes in one direction if you walk without stopping You can walk further to Karsa Kafe and other warungs in the area which will take another 5-10 minutes. Obviously, you’ll need to double these times, since you have to go back to get back to the beginning. And if you stop to take it all in or take photos, it may take a little longer. So to add the walk to your day, you should expect to need 1-2 hours.
So how far is Campuhan Ridge Walk? We used an app on our last hike to time the distance and got 1.22 km from Warwick Ibah to the end of the ridge, one way. So with the return trip you’re looking around 2.5kmmore if you walk further to Karsa Kafe.
Is there a loop ride?
You may be wondering, as we did, if there is a loop ride can do instead of having to go back. The simple answer is no. However, you can technically continue on the road until you reach Jalan RSI Markandya II road, just before Jungle Fish, and turn left on this road. Then follow this road until you can turn left onto Jalan Raya Sanggingan. Then follow this path until it becomes Jalan Raya Ubud and it will take you back past the start of the trek. But this will take a lot longer than if you had to go back. According to Google Maps, doing this loop would take 1 hour 40 minutes and 7.7 km.
How to Get to Campuhan Ridge Walk
Obviously this will depend on where you are staying in Ubud. If you are staying in Ubud Village you can walk to the start of the Campuhan Ridge Walk at Warwick Ibah and continue on. But if you’re staying on the outskirts of Ubud, you can park your scooter in the car park just down the hill from the Warwick Ibah sign.
Parking lot
Here are the walking directions. Come on starts from Ubud traditional markets at the corner of Jl. Bosque de Monos and Jl. Raya Ubud. Head towards the bridge or Warwick Ibah.
From the markets, walk along Jalan Raya Ubud, past the direction of Saraswati Temple and walk here (photo below). Once you go through the next section you will be almost at your turnoff.
Just before the bridge, you’ll see Signs for the Warwick IBAH chalets and spa.
Turn into that entrance area and you will see see another IBAH sign at a fork in the road. Under the IBAH sign you will see a small sign saying “Go to the Hill” and you will see an arrow telling you to Go left.
At the bottom of the hill, you will come to a bridge and stairs. The first time we did this walk there was no sign but now it is easy to know where to go. You will see the sign that says “This Way Trekking Campuhan Ridge ‘Karsa Kafe’ 2 Kilometers” Head right up the stairs.
From here you will walk around the walls of the Pura Gunung Lebah temple, a great example of how beautiful Balinese temples are.
Your last turn until it’s clear and you stroll along Campuhan Ridge Walk now has a sign and fence. Basically, as you follow the Temple around, you will be given the option to follow the temple (now with a fence/gate) or head right. Distract On the right to start this great tour of Ubud.
By the time you get to the ‘end’ it will most likely be parched and in need of an update. He ‘Karsa Cafe‘ which all the signs refer to is actually quite a nice setting for exactly that. We enjoyed a juice in one of the huts on the ponds, full of lotus flowers. We didn’t try their food, but it was quite nice to put your feet up and freshen up after the hike and prepare for the hike back.
Karsa Kafe or 5 minutes later is a good point to recover and stop or turn back. Now there are also a few other places to eat around Karsa Kafe. We’ve also heard that you can get a local driver to take you to Karsa Kafe, so you can walk the one way Campuhan Ridge Walk back to Ubud. This would be a great option if you are doing the trek with children.

What Brig
There are places to buy food and drinks at the beginning and end of the Campuhan Ridge Walk, and now there is a little place to buy drinks along the way. But still we definitely recommend bringing a water bottle, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, and bug repellant on your hike, as you can be quite exposed to the elements. Of course you can also bring a camera. When it comes to footwear, we like to wear joggers, but it can definitely be done with flip flops as well. Take a look at our favorite things to pack for Bali here.
The Campuhan Ridge Trek is a must if you enjoy an early morning or late afternoon hike, or just want to see another beautiful side of nature in Ubud and Bali, in our opinion.
This amazing trek is one of the few treks that we show you (with a map) in our Ubud Field Guide. You can learn more about our Ubud Field Guide here and our other Bali travel guides here.
