Recently we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Sanur Hyatt with a weekend stay at their beachfront Sanur property Hyatt Regency Bali! A destination loved by both young and old for half a century, the ever-grand Hyatt Regency has preserved its legacy of excellence in hospitality from opening to the present day. Incredibly, much of the original lobby structure is still in place from 1974 and is recognisable to the many guests and staff that have been a part of the Resort’s Sanur’s history. With Balinese staff happily shuffling through the lush landscape in brightly coloured sarongs, the vibe is quintessentially Balinese and feels almost like a Balinese village.

The sprawling beachfront property is 12 acres, with 7 acres dedicated to tropical gardens. The breathtaking gardens were all designed by Made Wijaya, an Australian artist who was also commissioned to create a tropical garden hideaway for none other than David Bowie on the island of Mustique. Although located just a stone’s throw from central Sanur and a 30-minute drive from Denpasar Airport you will feel the restorative embrace of nature all around you.

You will find three luxurious swimming pools, including a shallow swimming pool with a small slide perfect for toddlers and young children. There is a warm water jacuzzi and a swimming pool with a cave and island to explore. The pools are of course clad with tropical gardens and the vivid pink bougainvillea will set the scene for a memorable Bali vacation.

When it’s time to take a break from all of that glorious Bali sunshine, you might like to unwind at Shanka Spa. The spa menu is made up of treatments designed to help you unwind and melt your worries and tension away. There is also a romantic couples massage room, perfect for celebrating a special occasion with your partner. Sometimes we all need a little bit of peace and quiet- you will find a tranquil adults-only swimming pool, a fully equipped gym, yoga studio and a juice bar in the Shanka Spa area.

Each of their 363 rooms has a distinct Balinese flavour with warm wood tones complimenting the tropical gardens all around, finished with modern amenities. The suite rooms open up to a spacious balcony, or on the ground floor to a beachfront terrace, perfect for families with young children or couples. They also feature a living area or workspace and cabana, as well as a modern bathroom with twin basins.

Now for the all-important kids club for the folks with young kids! The kids club is open to children 4-12 years old. Children under 4 are welcome with adult supervision. There is a big pirate ship playground your kids are going to love exploring, as well as plenty of activities scheduled between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. There is a kids kitchen for playdough and cooking classes, a PlayStation and plenty of arts and crafts on offer. Your kids will enjoy a schedule of bouncing between the swimming pool and the kids club. And of course, happy kids means happy parents!

All of that sunshine and fun is sure to stimulate your appetite. There are two main food and beverage outlets at the Hyatt Regency Sanur. Omang Omang is the grill restaurant, serving a la carte lunch and dinner, and it is also the location of the bottomless buffet breakfast, where you will find the finest selection of pastries, tropical fruits, pancakes and waffles, Asian dishes, all of the Western favourites as well as tea, coffee, juices and smoothies. Every other evening Omang Omang also hosts a Summer BBQ with an endless selection of meat, seafood and more grilled to perfection, accompanied by Balinese dance.

Pizzaria is the place to go for authentic Italian flavours right on Sanur Beach. There is a tasty selection of antipasti, pizza straight from their wood-fired oven, pasta, seafood and meat dishes all as delicious as each other. They also have a kids menu and happy hour from 5-7pm across the resort daily. Interestingly Pizzaria was still very busy throughout the Covid period, with a big local and expat following. On Sundays from 12-3pm they hold a brunch event, with bottomless seafood, salads, carvery, desserts and much much more! You can also add the drinks package for a little extra fun.

We were touched by the warm Balinese hospitality coupled with wisdom of experience from the Hyatt Regency group. The Hyatt Regency Sanur’s 50 years of experience really shines through when you stay with them. Being only the second international resort in the area, many of the local staff have an emotional connection to the property, with family members across generations being employed at the Hyatt Regency. We certainly recommend the iconic Hyatt Regency Sanur as the destination for your next family holiday!
